BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Bill Hayward, President of the Board
Bill Hayward is the CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer of an over 100-year-old California lumber and building materials company. Mr. Hayward led the company’s efforts toward sustainability, making it the first US lumber company to offer Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified wood products to builders. As part of the company’s mission to provide builders with solutions to build healthy, durable, and energy-efficient homes, Mr. Hayward developed an online assessment tool. In the last ten years Bill has pursued understanding connections between the built environment, sustainability, and health. Named “Entrepreneur of the Year” by LBM Journal in 2015, Mr. Hayward also was named one of the “20 Most Influential Leaders in the Industry.” On the nonprofit side, Mr. Hayward chaired the US FSC for five years. In 2021, Mr. Hayward founded a nonprofit to increase awareness of healthy home environments. He received his BS from UCLA and graduated from the Stanford Executive Program. Mr. Hayward lives with his family in California.
Annarie Lyles, Secretary
Annarie Lyles, PhD, learned to appreciate the beauty of well-functioning, indoor life-support systems as a zoo curator, experiencing the exquisite sensitivity of penguins, and other habitat specialists, to clean and well-regulated air, water and other environmental conditions. Now Dr. Lyles is on a mission to protect and restore the health of living systems, from individuals to habitats. Her work spans governance and activism with corporations and impact business networks (both for-profit and tax-exempt), supporting applied R&D initiatives, and managing impact investments. She also leads the family side of a closely-held private business and advises several entrepreneurs and funds.
Previously, Dr. Lyles gained a decade of deal-making experience as a biotechnology business executive with publicly-traded Genmab and Medarex (acquired by BMY). After earning a BS from Yale and a PhD in Biology from Princeton University, she worked in nonprofit management at NYC’s Central Park and Bronx Zoos. A frequent speaker, Dr. Lyles has authored over three dozen publications.
